I know who lost that one. Because at about that same time frame I was out for a run and some guys cassette was loose on his rear hub. He didn't know what to do, so I removed the wheel, hand-tightened the cassette tightener dealie-bob, and told him to ride directly home, not passing go and not collecting $200. No idea whether he made it.

Are you sure that skewer nut hasn't been there since before the last BWR 1200? That would explain your wheel falling off!
A couple years ago I was riding on a little country road out in the middle of nowhere, and came across a Shimano 13T cog in the middle of the road.
